The Elizabethan era also known as the Tudor period of Europe was an amazing time to be an artist in Europe There were so much culture and life that was created during that time. According to many historians, this time period was the Golden Age of Europe. The Elizabethan era took place between the years 1558-1608. As alluded to be the name of the period this was during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. This Period also was full of Europe colonizing the world. One of Queen Elizabeth’s most famous Charters was the East India Company, which helped establish trading posts, which later turned into British India. The Elizabethan Age was full of plots, schemes and conspiracy are often dealing with people wanting to kill Queen Elizabeth a protestant†¦show more content†¦Built by actor-manager James Burbage, The Theatre is considered the first theatre built in London for the sole purpose of theatrical productions. The Theatre s history includes a number of important acting troupe s including the Lord Chamberlain s Men which employed Shakespeare as actor and playwright. After a dispute with the landlord, the theatre was dismantled and the timbers used in the construction of another famous theatre; Globe Theatre. The Globe was the main playhouse of the Lord Chamberlain s Men. Most of Shakespeare s plays after 1599 were staged at the Globe, including Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Othello, King Lear, and Hamlet. Like all the other theatres in London, the Globe was closed down by the Puritans in 1642. It was destroyed in 1644 to make room for tenements. These types of Elizabethan Theatre could hold an audience of up to three thousand people. The money started to roll in! However, the profits dropped in the winter as people would not venture into the cold open areas of this massive open-air amphitheater style of architecture which was first favored in the Elizabethan Theatre. An indoor structure for an Elizabethan theatre was clearly required, therefore Play Houses were created. The development of the Elizabethan Theatre moved on to indoor theatres which were called Playhouses.
